Each year Madison Public Library partners with UW-Madison to extend the Go Big Read program into the broader community.  This year, you can join your Unity of Madison community for a discussion of the book James  by Percival Everett.

"The book retells Adventures of Huckleberry Finn from the perspective of Jim, an enslaved man who runs away to avoid being sold and separated from his family. As Jim and Huck journey down the Mississippi River, familiar events unfold—but this time, Jim's strength, intelligence, and compassion take center stage. With sharp humor and powerful insight, Everett gives new life to a classic story, making James a standout work of modern American literature" [Big Read website].

Percival Everett is a Guggenheim Fellow and two-time finalist for the Booker Prize. His novel, James, received the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in 2025. He has penned 15 novels and is a distinguished professor of English at the University of Southern California, where he researches American studies and critical theory.
