Christmas in July Ministry
What We Do
Christmas in July is Unity’s annual event to support Madison's Domestic Abuse Intervention Services (DAIS). This organization provides shelter, a 24 hour crisis line, legal advocacy, and other services for those experiencing domestic abuse of any kind – physical, emotional, psychological, and sexual. Each year we contact DAIS to learn how we as a community can best support them. In recent years, we have raised money that enabled them to build their new shelter and provide increased services and programs.
DAIS’ mission is to “Empower those affected by domestic violence and advocate for social change through support, education, and outreach.” Their vision of “a nonviolent community that actively promotes safety, peace, justice, and hope”, along with their core values of mutual respect, openness, collaboration, and shared responsibility resonate with Unity principles.
How You Can Help
The Christmas in July team welcomes anyone who wants to be an “elf”. We host a DAIS information & donation table in the Sanctuary in July; you can assist us at the table one or two Sundays during the month. Our affirmation is, “From our compassionate hearts we coordinate an annual campaign to raise awareness and support domestic abuse survivors.”
