Coffee with Marcus Aurelius

Join Rev. Debra on Saturday, June 6th at 10 am for a lively conversation and specialty coffee drinks, too. Meditations by Marcus Aurelius is often listed as a 'must-read'  book. It is a practical guide to finding peace and resilience in a chaotic world.  Written as the personal journal of a Roman Emperor in the 2nd century, it is grounded in Stoic philosophy and is a 2000 year old self-help classic.  Marcus Aurelius posits that one must look for alternative ways of thinking about events and people in order to permanently improve the way we feel about them.  Here is a pithy statement from the book:  “Very little is needed to make a happy life; it is all within yourself in your way of thinking.” If there is interest, more gatherings will be scheduled on varying days during the summer.  Sign up in the foyer or link below. A limited number of books are available in the bookstore, but Meditations is widely available in libraries and from online sources. It might even be on your bookshelf!  Any translation is fine.
