Garden Team Job Descriptions

 WATERING FOLKS

unity of madison garden statueWillingness to water the gardens involves monitoring the weather and condition of the gardens so that all gardens receive at least 1 inch of water a week from May thru September.  The parking lot garden has a sprinkler system which should be run for at least 2 hours TWICE a week preferably in the morning or evening.   All hoses and the water sprinkler system are previously in place before the watering begins and require little movement of this equipment.  Watering is recorded on a water log found in the garden shed.  Participation in the Spring (late April or early May) and Fall Clean Up (October) as well as the March/April Gift Card Sales Drive. If you will be gone for more than a week on vacation etc., please let me know ahead of time so someone can take care of your garden until you return.

ADOPT A GARDEN FOLKS

Adopting a garden entails that you maintain the garden that you have adopted by weeding and monitoring the health and needs of the plants in your individual garden from May thru September.  This can be done on your own schedule but should be done weekly.  All tools are provided and debris is collected by you and placed in the garden shed.  You will not be planting, taking debris to the dump or watering the gardens as this will be done for you.  As part of the team activities, you are asked to participate in the Spring and Fall Clean Up and participate in the associated pot lucks as well as the March/April Gift Card Sales Drive. If you will be gone for more than a week on vacation you are asked to communicate this so someone can take care of your garden until you return.

AD HOC FOLKS

An ad hoc gardener can be asked to fill in for either of the above positions (adopt a garden or watering) if the primary individual is gone or is unable to fulfill their volunteer duties due to illness etc.  In addition, if there are special one-time garden projects such as Spring planting, shrub trimming or other projects, ad hoc garden team folks will be contacted to see if they are available for these projects.   As part of the team activities, ad hoc gardeners are asked to participate in the Spring and Fall Clean Up and participate in the associated pot lucks as well as the March/April Gift Card Sales Drive.
